Located in the buzzing clamor of a shopping mall in the fast-paced metropolis of Dubai, YB Lounge was conceptualized as a beauty salon and spa that acts as a dreamy reprieve for women to escape the busy ruckus of the city and the rigor of quotidian life. Inspired by shades of pink and hues found in the natural undulating veins of sandstone and desert landscapes, the project approaches the programmatic requirements by dividing the space into two distinct areas; private treatment rooms located at the edges which in turn allows for a large open space defined by circular oases framed by aluminum louvres encased with curtains for privacy.
The large open space houses multiple functions within each oasis; a reception and coffee/juice bar area, hair styling, hair spa, nails, Moroccan hammam and a kid’s area. The allocation of each area was defined through the use of soft and curved geometries defined by light whereby louvres act as veils for privacy. The rooms at the edges of the space house massage rooms, wax rooms, changing rooms, showers, toilets and administrative, staff and upkeep functions. The treatment rooms are differentiated from the main open space as pops of color are introduced through the use of ceramic coated glass. The space hosts a playful interplay of materials as the industrial white aluminum louvres are juxtaposed by the velvet fabric texture of the curtains and the soft pink undertones of the flooring.
The project endeavors to create a dialogue between the programmatic functional requirements and the intended emotional response of the customer experience. This relationship is characterized by imbuing the customer experience with a sense of relaxed wonder and tranquility through the use of soft geometries and gentle flowing spaces that act as dreamscapes which allows women to unwind and experience top-notch personal care and beauty treatments while relishing in the respite of a warm and welcoming space.
